In the lead up to doing Badass Mudder, I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos to get inspiration. For some reason I am drawn to the YouTube comments, which seem to be the place for others to share their own insecurities or hatred.
If you look at any crossfit video you probably will see a comment like this:
Or how about if you want to find out more about vegan fitness?
Finally the classic, said on every big power lifter video ever…
What I don’t understand is if you don’t subscribe to any of these life styles, why do you spend your days looking these videos up?
I realised through all the bitching and negativity in health and fitness videos is that, at the end of the day – it is none of your damn business.
Therefore it is importance to stress – as long as a person makes an effort to live a healthy lifestyle, it doesn’t matter what you think – it’s what works for them.
Imagine these situations:
- Perhaps you tried the gym and didn’t like it, instead you walk the dog and go for hikes at the weekend.
Good – it’s what works for you
- Perhaps you’re not into team sports at school, but you keep fit going down the skate park.
Good – it’s what works for you
- Perhaps you like to lift heavy weights, but find cardio boring
Good – it’s what works for you
- Perhaps you live a healthy and happy life on a vegan diet
Good – it’s what works for you
- Perhaps you do like going to the gym – but only to use the treadmill. Yes I don’t rate that, but it’s none of my business, it’s what works for you.
So whether you do classes, callisthenics, running, crossfit, part of a Sunday league or something else to keep active, then really it doesn’t matter what others think
It’s what works for you
So if you are one of those who are constantly going around on the Internet, looking to debate the pros and negatives of the lifestyle of someone on the other side of the world who you’ve never met, then I suggest turning off the computer, going outside and find something that is going to make you a more healthy, positive person.
Because words are wind, action makes the difference and only then can you find what works for you
Anyway I have spent enough time focusing on the negative, check out this guy who is a perfect example of doing what works for him – From a fat guy to a marathon runner
