Right… this time I’m certain I’m back for the foreseeable future

Welcome to the Perfect Manifesto Sunday Reflections.

This post is inspired by the week note format that many professionals use to reflect on their working week, except in these reflections I’ll be sharing various observations from all parts of my life, covering a range of topics, in short snippets that don’t quite justify fitting a full post.

The first step to recovery

Starts with patience.

This week marks my first full week returning to blogging, with good intention that I’ll be getting back to my twice a week schedule.

Recovery from surgery was not easy for me because I’m not a person who can do nothing.

I get stressed out if don’t have enough work to do in my day job (having 90 percent free time – many people’s dream, inevitably resulted in me leaving my last job!)

I don’t like watching household jobs building up, especially when I’m just sitting there.

And of course I miss the gym, and feel fat and slobby not getting a regular workout in.

Work colleagues asked me for recommendations on what Netflix series they should binge watch, but I can’t sit around and enjoy TV shows anymore (part due to my self-improvement journey making me focus on the ‘practical’ and being part being burnt by the gradual decline in quality, and ultimate terrible ending of the show Game of Thrones).

But I knew if I wanted to recovery properly from my surgery I needed to sit and do nothing.

So with much reluctance I did.

Square pegs and round holes

I’ve been sorting through my files this week and I found this graphic I created for Twitter.

Image: shows a series of grey round holes with an orange square peg trying to fit through unsuccessfully.
Right next to the square peg is a grey round hole, which the peg will be able to fit through if it keeps attempting to fit somewhere.

Supporting image text:
"Have you ever thought: you're a square peg trying to fit through a round hole? You have a place in this world"

For most of my life I’ve felt like the square peg – in jobs where I’ve clashed because “I don’t get it”, relationships where I’ve not felt accepted for being me, or just being too much of an idealist in a world stuck to routine.

This visual was inspired at a time when my state of mind was at a time of pure relief that I’d found satisfaction in my life, a place that I fit in for once.

I decided to share this today to inspire anyone reading who feels lost.

As the visual says

“You have a place in this world – keep searching”

Throwback of the week

I read Hugh’s News and Views, and he has a very good post up sharing some ideas on how to promote old blog posts.

So I’m utilising the WordPress block theme ‘Blog Posts’ to pull an old post from obscurity, so here it is:

The Humble Person’s Guide to Hype and Self-Promotion

When it comes to personal attributes, bragging is not a revered trait.  Several years ago I wrote the post How do you handle a bragger?, which has experienced continued traffic over the years, from people I can assume seeking coping strategies to deal with a boastful colleague, relative or friend.  In my own upbringing, I’ve…

  1. Thanks so much for the mention of my recent post and the pingback to it, James. I’m always delighted when I hear how my posts help.

Likewise, I can’t sit still for long. I have to keep doing something, anything to feed my mind that helps my body move around.

    1. Thanks Hugh, you’re tips are great posts they add a lot of value to new bloggers who don’t quite realise the functionality, long term bloggers who might not have as much confident to play around, and bloggers like myself who might not always keep up with the developments, but always like new features to get the most from our sites!
